June 2022 - Knockout Fight League
by Maxamilian Demian on Jun 19, 2022
Another night at a Knockout Fight League amateur MMA show and this one kind of sucked for us.
We had 3 fighters on the card. Justin Caldwell, Fred Adams & RJ Draper.
First up was Justin Caldwell making his MMA debut. He got clipped early in the 1st round which had him on his bicycle for most of the round recovering. In the 2nd round he found his rhythm and landed good shots on the feet for most of the round. It was 1-1 in rounds going into the third. Justin's opponent landed a bit on the feet early before getting taken down. Justin spent the rest of the round on top but wasn't the most active. The third round went down to what you gave more value to. The strikes early in the round, or the positional dominance for the rest of the round. 2 of the judges scored it for Justin's opponent while 1 of the judges scored it for Justin in a split decision loss.
Next up was Fred Adams. He was taken down early in the 1st round and was able to lock up both a gogoplata and a guillotine during the round, but was unable to finish them (we got some drilling to do). In the 2nd round Fred tired out after another takedown and got pounded out for a ref stoppage TKO loss.
Last up was RJ Draper. His was was really decided by takedowns and not too much dominant action by either fighter. They went into the 3rd round 1-1 due to takedowns in the first 2 rounds. RJ landed a takedown early in the 3rd and we thought the fight was a lock, but RJ's opponent managed to get back to his feet and land a takedown back on RJ. RJ then got back to HIS feet and you knew the round was up in the air. Then RJ's opponent landed another takedown to close out the round and win a decision.
We went 0-3... Nights like that really suck and we try our best to make sure they never happen. But sometimes they still do.
