March 2022 - Celtic Gladiator 31
by Maxamilian Demian on Mar 20, 2022
Last night was Celtic Gladiator 31 at the Commerce Casino in Commerce, California. It was a Pro-Am show and I was there to work the six amateur fights with CAMO as well as corner one of our pros, Emilio Williams. Mike Segura from Adam Lynn's Subfighter was also fighting on the pro card.
The amateur card was super interesting. All 6 fights were guys that trained together in a 20-week program called "Wimp 2 Warrior" designed to get people in shape via martials arts and culminating in an actual amateur MMA fight. The only differences from a normal amateur fight being that they wore rash guards and used 6oz gloves instead of 4oz.
Once that was over, Mike Segura was the first pro fight. He was coming off of a couple of losses and you could see some hesitancy in the cage, but he did enough to win 29-28 decision on all of the score cards and get back on the winning track!
Emilio was the 3rd pro fight. About 30 seconds into the first round, his opponent threw a teep kick and his big toe managed to dig in under Emilio's left floating rib and you could see that it hurt. Emilio responded by landing a hard four-punch combo followed by a knee. Emilio's opponent ducked his head down during the flurry and threw a right body punch that landed where the kick landed earlier. This punch put Emilio down as he was still hurting from the kick, ending in a TKO loss.
It's a shitty way to end the night, but that's how this game goes. Sometimes glory, sometimes heartbreak. We will be back in the gym Monday working towards the next fight.
